​Role of the Executive Director
The Executive Director is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the organization, fundraising and managing strategic relationships, and advancing the mission to champion transportation options that are safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all in Des Moines.
Reporting Relationship and Work Environment
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors of the Street Collective. The role is a salaried role requiring approximately 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, with flexibility of hours during the course of the week. Some evening and weekend hours will be required for Board meetings, public meetings, programs, and special events. The Executive Director may work remotely when necessary; however, due to the nature of the role, the Executive Director must live in the Des Moines metropolitan area or be willing to relocate.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

Strategic Leadership

Provide visionary leadership to drive the organization's mission and strategic objectives.

Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans.
Program Management
-
Oversee the efficient operation of all programs including the community bike shop, bike-share, bike-giveaways, and bike valet events.

Hiring and supervising a staff of approximately 9 full-time equivalents (FTEs), including the bike shop and bike share managers, valet employees, and programmatic and administrative staff.

Ensure programs align with the organization's mission and objectives.

Fundraising and Development

Develop and execute fundraising strategies to secure financial support from individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

Cultivate relationships with potential donors and stakeholders.

Plan and host fundraising events such as PedalArt Poster Show.

Financial Management

Manage the organization's budget, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible resource allocation.

Provide regular financial and organizational reports to the Board of Directors.
Community Engagement
-
Foster strong relationships with the community, local government, and relevant stakeholders.

Represent the organization at events, forums, and meetings to enhance visibility.

Serve as an active transportation advocate on project-specific committees, working groups, focus groups or similar.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Proven leadership experience in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on active transportation, community development, environmental sustainability, or related field.

Strong fundraising and financial management skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience working with a Board of Directors and diverse stakeholders.

Passion for sustainable, active transportation and community development.

Experience managing and overseeing staff.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Understanding of bicycle infrastructure design

Understanding of pedestrian mobility needs

Understanding of transit operations and DART in particular
-
Avid cyclist, pedestrian, and/or transit user
-
Established connections to community and business leaders in the Des Moines metro area
Compensation
-
Annual salary beginning at $70,000, depending upon qualifications and experience
